Learn tips to avoid slips in the Fall/Winter 2021 Professional Driver Development Campaign

The Professional Driver Development program will help keep you on firm footing when you complete the new campaign segment on winter slipping hazards. It’s part of the Fall/Winter 2021 Campaign providing you with the latest knowledge and skills to stay safe on the road.

Icy roads and parking areas may be unavoidable in winter — and they’re prime culprits for slips and falls. But there’s a lot you can do to minimize your chances of an unexpected “trip.” Start by keeping your equipment clean and free of ice and debris. When you’re ready to exit the cab, remember to use three points of contact: Keep a solid grip with two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand, on the cab at all times.

Speaking of feet, what’s on them matters, too. Shoes or boots with rubber, grooved, nonslip soles provide the most secure footing. Slip-on sneakers with flat bottoms or cowboy boots with leather soles, not so much. And when it’s an option, stay on surfaces treated for ice and snow.
