COVID Cases Continue to Rise

by Miranda Brooks 5. August 2021 08:28

COVID-19 is on the rise across the nation. As of Saturday, July 31st, the CDC reported a 44% increase in positive cases, a 41% increase in hospitalizations, and a 25% increase in deaths over the previous week.

On our team, there have been over 70 new positive COVID cases and three directly related deaths in the last six weeks. We mourn the loss of our colleagues and are wishing the best to those who have tested positive, particularly those hospitalized.

Your safety is our priority, but it is everyone’s responsibility to do their part. We ask that you follow all CDC guidelines, including practicing social distancing when possible, taking breaks in your cab instead of driver lounges or other common areas. Additionally, you are required to follow any guidelines set in place at any customer location.

Per recommendations from the broad healthcare community and other experts (including the CDC, Mayo Clinic, and many, many more), we remain convicted that the safest and fastest way to protect each other is to get vaccinated. If you are not yet vaccinated, please consider getting the shot(s) as soon as possible for your safety and the safety of those around you.

If you have questions or concerns about getting vaccinated, take a look at this Q&A with Dr. Andrea Willis, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee.

Stay tuned for more information as we continue assessing the best plan of action to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Happy 230th Birthday, Coast Guard!

by Miranda Brooks 4. August 2021 10:23

The U.S. Coast Guard is a multi-mission, maritime, military service. Its mission is to protect the public, the environment, and U.S. economic interests in the nation's waterways, along the coast, on international waters, or in any maritime region as required to support national security.

On August 4th, 1790, Congress authorized the construction of 10 vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws, prevent smuggling, and protect the collection of federal revenue, creating the Coast Guard as we know it.

So today, we’re celebrating the U.S. Coast Guard’s 230th birthday. Thank you to all our veterans for your service to our country.
