Brake Safety Week Starts Today

by Miranda Brooks 22. August 2021 08:11

Brake Safety Week starts today! From August 22nd through 28th, 2021, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified inspectors will conduct brake system inspections on commercial motor vehicles. They’ll specifically be looking for out-of-service brakes and brake-system violations. It’s an annual outreach and enforcement campaign designed to improve commercial vehicle brake safety throughout North America – something you know like the back of your hand.

So, to make sure you pass with flying colors, remember to

  1. Always conduct a pre-trip inspection, including:
    • Check brake pads for wear or cracks
    • Listen to the brake chambers for air leaks
    • Check the slack adjusters for too much play in them
  2. Report any issues to shop technicians.

You’re already a pro, so any inspection will be a breeze. Have a great Brake Safety Week.

COVID-19 Update: Staying Safe on the Road

by Miranda Brooks 19. August 2021 10:09

COVID-19 is on the rise across the nation. As of Friday, August 13th, the CDC reported an 18.4% increase in positive cases, a 29.6% increase in hospitalizations, and a 21% increase in deaths over the past seven days.

In the past 30 days, 74 of our team members tested positive, some of whom are in the hospital. We have even lost a few of our colleagues to this virus. We mourn their loss and wish the best to those who have tested positive, particularly those hospitalized.

Your safety is our priority, but it is everyone’s responsibility to do their part. We ask that you follow all CDC guidelines, including practicing social distancing when possible, taking breaks in your cab instead of driver lounges or other common areas. Additionally, you are required to follow any guidelines set in place at any customer location.

Per recommendations from the broad healthcare community and other experts (including the CDC, Mayo Clinic, and many, many more), we remain convicted that the safest and fastest way to protect each other is to get vaccinated. If you are not yet vaccinated, please consider getting the shot(s) as soon as possible for your safety and the safety of those around you.

Stay tuned for more information as we continue assessing the best plan of action to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Top 5 Summer Safety Tips

by Miranda Brooks 16. August 2021 10:45

During the summer, the sun is stronger than ever. Help protect yourself from heat exhaustion, sunburn, dehydration, and more with these quick summer tips:

  1. Stay hydrated. Sip water throughout the day to avoid dehydration and heat stress. Try keeping a bottle of water in your cupholder as a reminder.
  2. Rest when needed. If you’re feeling overheated, take a break in a cool spot. The sun and heat can zap your energy quickly this time of year.
  3. Put on sunscreen. Even when your windows are rolled up, the sun beating through the glass can burn you. Be sure to use SPF 50 or above, especially on your arms and face.
  4. Avoid caffeine and sugar. Caffeine and sugar can dehydrate you. If you need an energy boost, reach for some unsweetened tea or a healthy snack.
  5. Wear sunglasses. Polarized sunglasses with high UV protection can help protect your eyes from the summer sun as it reflects off the road, bodies of water, or other vehicles.

Stay safe out there, and keep up the good work.

Truckers Against Trafficking

by Miranda Brooks 15. August 2021 14:56

Victims of human trafficking are often found in locations frequented by truck drivers. These victims need our help, and that’s why U.S. Xpress has partnered with Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT). TAT is a nonprofit organization that trains truck drivers to recognize and report instances of human trafficking. By learning how to identify the signs and report incidents of trafficking, you can play a vital role in rescuing victims. Since 2009, professional drivers like you have reported over 2,000 cases to TAT’s national hotline and freed over 1,000 people.

You can help victims of human trafficking with a TAT-certification course that involves a 26-minute video, followed by a 10-minute quiz.

Access the training one of three ways:

On www.USXpressway.com, there’s a direct link with a button titled “Professional Driver Development Site”.

Or, if you’re already logged into U.S. Xpressway, you can find the Learning System listed under MY TOOLS.

Or, you can go to our main website, www.usxpress.com. At the bottom of the main page, you can click “PROFESSIONAL DRIVER DEVELOPMENT” to access the platform.

Once you’re in the Learning System, look for “Truckers Against Trafficking” in your list of assignments, and click on the video.
