COVID-19 Update: Staying Safe on the Road

As the COVID-19 Delta variant continues to spread across the nation, we want to make sure you’re staying safe and healthy on the road.  As of Friday, August 27th, the CDC reported 142,006 new positive cases, 12,297 new hospitalizations, and 864 deaths all of which occurred in the previous seven days.

In August, 122 U.S. Xpress team members tested positive, some requiring hospitalization. We have even lost a few of our colleagues to this virus. We mourn their loss and wish the best to those who have tested positive, particularly those hospitalized.

Your safety is our priority, but it is everyone’s responsibility to do their part. We ask that you follow all CDC guidelines, including practicing social distancing when possible, taking breaks in your cab instead of driver lounges or other common areas. Additionally, you are required to follow any guidelines set in place at any customer location.

Per recommendations from the broad healthcare community and other experts (including the CDC, Mayo Clinic, and many more), we remain convicted that the safest and fastest way to protect each other is to get vaccinated. If you are not yet vaccinated, please consider getting the shot(s) as soon as possible for your safety and the safety of those around you.

Labor Day Hours

All Service Center offices will be closed on Monday, September 6th, for Labor Day but, as always, driver lounges and yards will be available for anyone who needs them.

All shops will be open for regular hours and fully staffed with one exception:

  • Cleveland, T: Closed (including the Whirlpool plant)

The Payroll team and DriverTech Help Desk will also be closed.

If you have any questions or concerns about our holiday hours, please contact your manager.

As always, thank you for all that you do – particularly those of you who are spending the holiday on the road. Your hard work is keeping the country rolling, now more than ever. Stay safe.

July’s Drivers and Trainer of the Month Are Here!

We think all U.S. Xpress drivers are some of the best professional truck drivers out there. Every day they're helping support the supply chain and keeping everyone in the country going.

 

But we want to recognize a specific few who have been beyond relentless. These drivers were nominated by their managers and chosen as winners by company leadership based on their outstanding safety records, hours of service compliance, and overall good reputation. Each of them will be recognized with a plaque, a $150 gift certificate to the company store, and an entry to become the 2021 Driver/Trainer of the Year.

Per Diem Advantage

​As you likely know, with the introduction of a 2018 tax law, you may no longer itemize work expenses for tax purposes. But there is good news: the IRS now allows you to keep $66 of your earnings per day tax-free as a professional truck driver.

Access Your ELDs Right from Your Phone.

As you know, during an inspection, you’re responsible for showing your HOS logs and knowing the functions related to a roadside inspection from within your DriverTech unit. But do you know how to access the information on your mobile device? It’s easy:

  • Step 1: Enable airplane mode on your mobile device.
  • Step 2: Open WiFi settings on your mobile device.
  • Step 3: Connect to your personal DriverTech network. It will be “DT” followed by your personal device number.
  • Step 4: Enter the password “drivertech”.
  • Step 5: Select sign-in prompt or navigate to ra.drivertech.com on your web browser. It may take a few moments for your device to connect.

Now you’re directly connected to DriverTech, and your mobile device is acting as your ELD display screen. Go ahead and hand it to the DOT officer so they can complete your inspection. Then just like that – you’re back on the road!

Brake Safety Week Is Almost Over

Brake Safety Week starts today! From August 22nd through 28th, 2021, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified inspectors will conduct brake system inspections on commercial motor vehicles. They’ll specifically be looking for out-of-service brakes and brake-system violations. It’s an annual outreach and enforcement campaign designed to improve commercial vehicle brake safety throughout North America – something you know like the back of your hand.

  • So, to make sure you pass with flying colors, remember to   
    • Always conduct a pre-trip inspection, including:
    • Check brake pads for wear or cracks
    • Listen to the brake chambers for air leaks
    • Check the slack adjusters for too much play in them
  • Report any issues to shop technicians.

Celebrating Women’s Equality Day

Today we’re celebrating Women’s Equality Day to commemorate the adoption of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote. While a lot has changed in the last 101 years for women, we acknowledge that there is still work to be done.

Eleven percent of our drivers are female, and today, we want to take a moment to honor their achievements in what is a traditionally male-dominated industry. Happy Women’s Equality Day to all the women on the road who help keep this country going. We know it’s not always easy, but your diligence and dedication will never go overlooked.

We’re Headed to Dallas.

To help make goods move better every day, we’re moving our Irving service center to a more functional, convenient space for everyone. That’s right – starting in late September 2021, we’re headed to Dallas!

The new facility, located at 34511 LBJ Freeway, includes offices, a full shop, and driver amenities, all consolidated in one freshly remodeled building. Amenities include:

  • Easier access to truck routes.
  • Better traffic flow.
  • Improved efficiencies in maintenance, training, and parking.
  • A larger designated area in the yard for hands-on training.
  • A shop, office, training facility, driver lounge, and company store – all under one roof.
  • A full gym.
  • Fences and gates around the entire perimeter with keypad or badge entry.
  • Room for future expansion to accommodate any growth plans.
  • More amenities in the area surrounding the service center, like restaurants and entertainment.

Driver Appreciation Week Is Almost Here!

September 12th – 18th is Driver Appreciation Week, and we can’t wait to celebrate you and your hard work. Here’s what we have planned:

  • Events: Have some meals and snacks on us at all service centers and Dedicated locations throughout the week. There will also be one big celebration at each location, where you can hang out and get to know the local team and company leadership. At each celebration, you’ll also have the chance to win some raffle-style prizes. For everyone’s safety in the wake of COVID-19, all in-person events will be outdoors.
  • Scratch-Off Tickets: Will be passed out at all terminals. The grand prize is $1500 cash.
