Be an Owner with the U.S. Xpress Employee Stock Purchase Plan

by Ashley Rhodes 20. November 2019 11:27

Enrollment for the Employee Stock Purchase Plan begins December 1. Here’s what you need to know.

U.S. Xpress Enterprises (which includes U.S. Xpress, Inc. and Total Transportation of Mississippi) began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “USX” in June of 2018. To make it easy for you to invest in the Company, we offer the Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), an optional plan that allows you to purchase company shares at a discounted price of 15% of the fair market valueof the stock.

The ESPP discount is both higher than many of our competitor trucking companies and the highest allowable by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). If you’re currently employed by U.S. Xpress or Total Transportation and havebeen with the company for at least 12 months, you’re eligible to participate.

Here’s How it Works:

Each year, there will be two enrollment periods (December 1-December 15 and June 1-June 15) during which you can sign up for the ESPP and determine what percentage of your compensation you want to allocate to purchasing U.S. Xpress stock.

After that, there are six-month “funding periods” during which time your pre-determined allocation will be withheld from your paycheck. At the end of each funding period, the Company will use funds that have been deducted from your paycheck to purchase shares at a 15% discount of the stock price on either the first day of the funding period or on the last day of the funding period, whichever is lower.

So, for example, if you enroll in December 2019 and the stock is trading at $5 per share on the first day of the funding period (January 1, 2020) and trading at $10 per share on the last day of the funding period (June 30, 2020), the money that’s been withheld during that six-month period would be used to buy stock at 15% off the lower of the two prices, or $4.25 ($5/share less 15% discount). Although you will need to hold the shares for one year prior to selling or transferring them, it is hard to beat a 15% discount on the lower of two prices.

Have You Signed Up Previously for the ESPP?

If you plan to keep the same contribution you set during your previous enrollment, you do not need to do anything.

However, if you would like to increase, decrease or suspend your contribution, you do need to log into your account by clicking here (no activation code needed) and changing or suspending the percentage you initially allocated toward purchasing U.S. Xpress stock.

New to the ESPP? Follow these Three Simple Steps to Sign Up:

1.    Decide what percentage of your compensation you’d like to allocate for purchasing stock at a 15% discount. You may contribute anywhere from 1% of your compensation to 15% of your compensation, but not more than $25,000 over the course of a year ($12,500 for each 6-month period. IRS rules).

2.    Be on the lookout for an email and/or snail mail that will include a 12-digit account activation code that’s been generated just for you. You’ll use that code to activate an online account that will allow you to enroll in the ESPP.

3.    Activate your online account by visiting to access the ESPP website called Shareworks.

·         The first time you visit Shareworks, you’ll want to click “Open Account” in the top right-hand corner of the web page and use your 12-digit activation code to get started.

·         Follow the prompts to activate your account, determine a password and enroll in the ESPP. Make sure to take this step during one of the two annual enrollment periods: December 1-15 or June 1-15.

·         If for some reason you don’t receive your activation code via mail or email, just give Shareworks a call at 1.877.380.7793 and they’ll give you your activation code.

Professional Driver Stephen K. Volunteers with his Local Community

by Ashley Rhodes 15. November 2019 09:24

Shout out to Certified Driver Trainer Stephen K.! Recently while he was off-duty, he visited the Arc of Florida, a non-profit that cares for and works with adults with developmental disabilities.

He shared his trucking expertise with the developmental disabilities group. He showed them his truck and spent a few hours going over his job functions and answering any questions they had. They loved being able to see his "big rig" and, according to Fleet Support Manager Kellye Simerley, he received so much gratitude, smiles, and laughter from the group.

"Stephen means the world to me," Kellye said. "I have had him for my whole career here at U.S. Xpress. He's not only a great driver, but an excellent Certified Driver Trainer, too. I wanted to brag on him a little for what he has done to contribute his time and effort back to his community."

"I got my start in trucking in 1989 while I was a business manager and house parent for a program working with adolescents out of the court system," Stephen said. "I taught the kids horseback riding and basic animal care, as well as helped move equipment by pulling trailers. That eventually led to me driving big trucks and training student drivers. Volunteering with the Arc of Florida kind of takes me back to when I got my start."

We are so proud of Stephen and so glad he's driving with us!

Helpful Tips to Avoid Frozen Brakes in Winter Weather

by Ashley Rhodes 14. November 2019 16:41

Here are a few helpful tips to avoid frozen brakes in winter weather:

1. Drain your tractor and trailer air tanks daily.

2. Do not set trailer brakes unless you are dropping a trailer.

3. Once you’ve parked, let the truck sit there for about 15 minutes before activating your truck brakes. That will allow the temperature to equalize. After that, pull forward and spread ice melt in your tire tracks before backing into the original parking spot again. That will stop your brakes and tires from freezing.

4. When you are ready to leave, make a slight turn to the right while looking to your passenger side mirror. Make sure both of your outside wheels are turning. Do the same with a left turn. If your wheels are turning, you are good to go.
